What to do when you can’t get a coding job
Welcome back! Recently i’ve been scrolling through a ton of programing subreddits and a lot of people have been discussing their delays in hearing from a company, after hearing a ton of peoples responses I wanted to highlight some of my favorite responses about what to do when your waiting to hear back from a job OR you get declined from a position.
Keep sharpening your skillset
One of the best things you can do when waiting between jobs is to develop more skills. This can be anything from learning a new language, creating some new projects or even brushing up on your soft skills (writing, speaking, etc.). By using this time between positions to actually further your skills you will essentially become a much better engineer. One of the most valuable things I learned between jobs was learning more about AWS (Amazon Web Services), many positions required X amount of experience using AWS, so I would watch videos / read articles about AWS. Am I an expert at using AWS now? Absolutely not, but I now have a basic understanding which can be a framework for another position in the future.
