Top 5 Python IDE’s in 2021!

Welcome back! Python is one of my favorite programming languages, it’s also one of the top programming languages in the world, so let’s talk about some of the best IDE’s for Python this year! These range from heavy duty IDE’s with tons of features all the way down to lightweight environments, lets get started!


First off we have PyCharm, this is one of my favorite IDE’s I pretty much use for all of my tutorials. PyCharm is one of the largest IDE’s on this list but it offers a ton of features.

One of my favorite things with this IDE is running the code within the environment, this allows us to run line by line or the whole program right in the IDE. On top of this, PyCharm has all of the following features as well:

Visual Studio Code

Next up we have Visual Studio Code, this is a very popular IDE built by Microsoft! This IDE is a multi language interpreter, so you can run code from multiple different languages, one of these languages is Python!

Visual Studio Code is an industry standard used at tons of different companies, so I would totally recommend learning it for sure! This is the link to download this software:

Sublime Text

Next up we have Sublime Text, this is another very popular IDE for Windows, Mac and Linux. This IDE is also extremely popular, it supports multiple different languages just like Visual Studio Code.

I would highly recommend learning this piece of software, its used in various companies and is extremely popular. Download this software here:


Next up we have Atom, a very powerful IDE for multiple different OS’s. This IDE is a very powerful option, it supports multiple different languages as well!

Atom has a very large community as well, this is another IDE that’s very powerful, download this IDE here:


Next up we have Spyder, this IDE is essentially RStudio but for Python. This IDE is known for its data science development, it also houses variable explorers and a terminal built in!

Honorable Mention: Google Colab

Finally one of my favorite IDE’s is Google Colab, this doesn’t quite meet the mark as others here since it’s an online IDE. I love this IDE since I can develop and code everything online and even see the code online, on top of this you can run this code using Google’s GPU’s and TPU’s!
