The big issue with Data Science In 2021

Welcome back! As some of you may know there is somewhat of an issue with the data science field, which is more so a problem with employers than actual data scientists, let me explain. One of the biggest problems with data science is the difference of role description from one job to the other. Personally, I’ve seen many data science jobs that are essentially data analyst positions, requiring more experience with data visualization tools rather than actual programming, is this a problem? Not at face value, but there is an underlying issue.

I was looking at the data science subreddit (that I would highly recommend you guys to look at) and I saw a very interesting comment. Essentially, the comment stated that their employer had jobs labeled as data analysts, there were very few people who applied for those positions, the employer then switched the job title to data scientist and they immediately saw a huge increase in applications. This isn’t really a problem either, but it does cause some issues when trying to narrow the scope of data science / the true meaning of a data scientist, are people applying to these positions just for the job title or the job description?
