How Super Mario Galaxy Was Developed! (Programming Languages, Software, Tools, Etc.)

Super Mario Galaxy was an amazing game that was developed by Nintendo with the help of many developers, including Shigeru Miyamoto. The game initially started development in 2004, and wrapped up a few years later and launched on the Wii. Now, the development of the game started shortly after the release of Super Mario Sunshine, which was another fairly popular Mario game on the Nintendo Gamecube.

The initial concept for Super Mario Galaxy was to take Mario to outer space and have him jump from planet to planet, with the gravitational pull of each planet affecting his movements. The team wanted to create a sense of weightlessness and disorientation that players had never experienced before.

To achieve this, the team developed a new game engine that allowed them to create spherical environments and realistic gravity physics. There was an initial tech demo that Nintendo demonstrated a few years earlier called Super Mario 128, somewhat of a successor to Super Mario 64, however, that game never materialized, but the concept was brought forward to Super Mario Galaxy.
