Data Science Checklist! (What you need to know!)

Hi Everyone! I’ve been a data scientist for about 2 years now and it’s a very rewarding career, but when I was starting off I wasn’t too sure what I needed to know to become a Data Scientist. Having a checklist for any career is very important, so here is a little bit of a checklist of what you need to do in order to become a data scientist (in my opinion)!

Python / R Experience

Python & R are some of the most important languages a Data Scientist can know. With these languages you’ll not only be able to process big data, but you’ll also be able to develop machine learning algorithms for your projects as well. I’ve written articles about the basics of Python & R that you can read, but I believe developing projects is the best way to learn these languages. From the countless amounts of data science jobs that i’ve applied to over the years these 2 languages were the most popular languages used by companies, so learning them is a super worthwhile thing to learn. Along with understanding these languages, get familiar with any data science related packages (Dplyr In R for example / Pandas, Numpy, Etc. In Python) as well as IDE’s for both, understanding Jupyter Notebooks as well as Google Colab would be extremely important as well.
